Sonatest supply a range of technologies to assist
in keeping Rail infrastructure in safe operating
condition.
Most notably the RailScan
125, an Ultrasonic Flaw Detector especially
developed to meet the requirements of Network
Rail specification NR/SP/TRK/005. This is
most commonly used with a Rail Inspection
Trolley, but can also be used as a standard
manual Flaw Detector for investigation of
indications found using the trolley, or
for inspection of specific areas such as
boltholes.
The Sonacoat range of coating thickness
gauges have been successfully used for the
measurement of track contamination – The
infamous ‘Leaves on the Line’ problem that
has caused significant disruption to the
British Rail Network in previous autumns.
And the Soundscan Ultrasound Tool is used
to listen for electrical discharges indicating
insulator problems with Rail Electrification.
Steel structures such as Bridges and Tunnel
supports require periodic inspection using
a wide range of technologies, Including
Eddy Current or Magnetic Particle Inspection
for detection of in-service cracking in
welds, Ultrasonic Flaw Detectors or Phased
array equipment for inspection of steel
members, welded joints and support Pins,
and Thickness Gauges for corrosion monitoring. |
